Welcome to Autumn:

Autumn has officially arrived! It’s the season of pumpkin spice, cozy sweaters, and the beginning of cooler weather (or at least it will be at some point… even here in Canada, it’s still quite warm). I love fall! It’s simply beautiful, with crispy leaves underfoot and all the pretty colors. These beaded and pipe cleaner corns are the perfect way to celebrate the new season!

Although we LOVE Thanksgiving in our house, we haven’t done many crafts to celebrate the holiday. (Don’t forget we celebrate Thanksgiving in early October in Canada, so it’s quickly approaching for us!) I don’t think I’ve ever felt so inspired to make a corn craft; they’re just so cute! I knew they would be perfect to try with the kids!

Indian corn or “calico corn” is very beautiful and is characterized by its multicolored kernels. It’s definitely a Thanksgiving decoration staple, and you can find it everywhere this time of year. I can’t believe how realistic the craft version looks! Using only pipe cleaners and beads, it’s super quick and easy to make. Plus, there’s almost no mess! Pour the beads into a styrofoam cup to prevent them from spilling everywhere. I was inspired by the fantastic craft from Cutesy Crafts.

You know I love finding crafts that my kids can do on their own with little or no supervision. My kids were so excited when they saw them! They spent a good 20 minutes choosing their colors. Then, they sat in front of the TV while they threaded the beads onto the pipe cleaners. Even my 4-year-old wanted to make one. He didn’t have the patience to complete the whole process, but he managed to thread at least half of them before asking me to finish it.

If you don’t have beads in fall or earth tones, just use the colors you have on hand. Kids create the most AMAZING color combinations and aren’t afraid to try new ones. You might be surprised at how cool neon corn looks!
